About the Site

For over a century, the College of Education at the University of Illinois has been the site of breakthrough educational research and pedagogical ideas. The University of Illinois has a proud history of innovation in education—as the place where the world's first computer learning environment was created, where foundational approaches to mathematics, science and literacy teaching have been devised, and where the notion of ‘special education’ was first developed. This tradition continues today as researchers continue to address the challenges and opportunities arising from learner diversity, technology and a myriad of forces of social change.

The Breakthroughs in Education repository showcases the work of the College. It contains both legacy publications (including materials that have gone out of print and are now hard to find) and recent publications. The contributors are faculty and research students, including former as well as current members of the College. Breakthroughs in Education sets out to become a comprehensive internet archive of the work of the College of Education.
